Journey back in time and relive the history of Piedmont with a visit to the Piedmont Historical Museum. Join our proud citizens as we unite to preserve and display timeless ariifacts illustrating the history surrounding Piedmont.
Established in 1992, the Museum contains thousands of pictures most of which were donated by Ruth Collet from her husband, Harold's priceless collection. It contains artifacts that belonged to the people of this area from many years ago up until the present day. We are collecting today's aritfacts, as well as early day items for future generaions.
The Museum itself is Piedmont's first two story brick building. It was built in 1917 and housed the Piedmoht State Bank on the main floor. The Masonic Lodge, Eastern Star and Rainbow Girls were located upstairs.
The white and green small octagon shaped ceramic tiles are still intact at the entry of the main building, as well as the stained glass windows and the bank's safe. The Museum includes a map of the Piedmont vicinity listing the names of the 89ers on their homesteads. In addition, all Veterans of World War II and the Korean War are listed on a plague and research is underway for the Verterans of Vietnam and Desert Storm.
A miniature model of Piedmont is on display illustrating how the Ft. Smith and Western Railroad ran through the town from 1903 to 1927.
Memorials in memory of friends and relatives are recorded in the Museum and a sympathy a card is sent to a designated family member.
Volunteers contribute many hours to the Museum. There are a variety of interesting events and opportunities for volunteers throughout the year.
